Serena’s plan on not attending the annual cotillion ball is sidetracked when her grandmother CeCe (guest star Caroline Lagerfelt) persuades her to attend; Nate sees Blair’s new buoyant attitude and entrusts Chuck to know the reason, in which he tells him that she is having an affair with St. Jude’s alumni Carter Baizen (guest star Sebastian Stan), whom he punches at the ball. This causes Blair to break up with Chuck and return to Nate and consummate their love with a passionate night. Meanwhile, Jenny attends the ball despite it being on the same night as Alison’s art gallery opening.
